in between. going into this debate, this really was not and in between the situation where president obama was ahead. governor romney desperately needed to shake this race of. something had to change the trajectory and this election. it needed to be something very substantial. here we are now at this momentous event. it was in the realm of debates. this is certainly much more decisive, i think, then pretty much any other debate that any of us can remember. i thought governor romney did a fabulous job on both a relative basis. quite fabulous and on a nominal basis. he did very well. i think it is true to say that superiorbama is 8 superia orator and i think mitt romney is a superior debater. it occurred to me that this reminded me of the mitt romney i met in 1994 when he was running for the senate. he met with me. he was incredibly impressive and fact driven. he was a very pragmatic. obama seemed like -- i wouldn't say smug, but someone who did not seem terribly hungry for it. i do not think there is any question that when you look at some of the -- and i am not really big on these polls --

obama is a superior or a tour. -- orator but i think romney is a better debator. we saw something we have not been seeing in a long time and it occurred to me that this reminded me more of the romney i met in 1994 when he was running for senate and came by and met with me and was just incredibly impressive, and a local, pragmatic. this person has been pretending to be an ideologue for the last few years. obama seemed to be like a team sitting in the league. i would not have said "smug," but someone who did not seem to be terribly hungry for it. i do not think there's any question when you look at these instant polls. i don't care for them. the cnn opinion research corp. -- who did the best job? obama 25 and romney 67? who did better than expected? obama 21% and worse than expected 61%. 82% said ronny did better than expected. 10% said they thought he did worse. my guess is that 10% were partisan. obviously a democratic polling firm. romney has no evidence of changing the game. i agree on the first that romney had a good night. i did not know if it changed the game. wal-mart sponsors

in terms of the timing. it was like the two minutes didn't matter. barack obama woods along. when i'm about to die i want barack obama's five seconds because they lasted forever. [laughter] on the other hand, i thought it was pretty good. there's so much policy in this debate. both of these people show they are very smart people and that they both you know can be president, won by virtue of being present in the other by virtue of -- i don't know if there are differences in the formats in the next two. i haven't looked that far ahead. but, i thought it worked out really well in terms of the back-and-forth. it was more of a gnat -- actual debate then a dinner talk or something. >> i think as they political follower like all of you are, i like to the elastic time constraints. i think sometimes in too many debates, i mean just let them talk. i don't think the format of the debate affected the performance of either candidate. it was what it was. i think mr. lehrer did a terrific job and i thought it was neat that they were talking a lot. >> it was more british style than american-style. >> yeah,
